During the meeting between Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava at Singha Durbar, the issue of Durga Prasai was also raised.
Prasai was questioned by Indian immigration while returning to Kathmandu from New Delhi last Friday. Sources said that Home Minister Aryal also got information about it from Srivastava during the meeting on Sunday.
‘Indian Ambassador Srivastava had also expressed interest in whether there was any case against Prasai in Nepal,’ a ministry source said, ‘In that context, the Home Minister had also informed about him.’
Sources say that New Delhi has been taking notice of Prasai’s statements that suggest he is close to India. ‘Recently, the Indian side has been concerned about his visit to India after the Gen-G movement,’ the source said, ‘Especially, the Indian side has been suspicious of the comments he makes regarding his visit to India.’
Prasai, who has been saying that he will agitate for the restoration of the monarchy since 7 Mangsir, has been claiming to take people to the streets from there as well. In this regard, sources say that the discussion about Prasain took place when Indian Ambassador Srivastava reached Singha Durbar.
The press note issued by the Home Minister's Secretariat regarding the meeting does not mention anything about Prasain. However, it is said that Minister Aryal and Ambassador Srivastava discussed peace and security for the elections. It is mentioned that Indian Ambassador Srivastava expressed confidence that the elections to the House of Representatives to be held on 21 Falgun will be held effectively in a fear-free environment.
Srivastava said that Nepal-India relations will always move forward in a positive and harmonious manner and was always positive about the role to be played to make the elections successful.
Minister Aryal, on the other hand, said that the country is currently in a sensitive situation and mentioned that peace and security, good governance and corruption-free service delivery are the main priorities of the government.
