Tribhuvan International Airport has been temporarily closed until 9:20 pm on Saturday after an electrical short circuit occurred on the runway.

According to the airport's general manager Hansraj Pandey, a formal NOTAM has been issued to inform airlines and aviation personnel. According to him, after a problem was detected in the electrical circuit, the technical team has been trying to find the location of the short circuit since 5 pm, but the problem has not been found yet.

A problem was detected in the electrical circuit of the runway since around 4 pm on Saturday. All domestic and international flights from Kathmandu have been suspended after the runway became dark.

According to the airport, a Fly Dubai flight from Dubai has returned after holding over Simara. Similarly, a Korean Air flight from Korea has been diverted to Delhi. A Buddha Air flight from Janakpur has also returned to Simara.

Meanwhile, two aircraft of Fly Dubai from Kathmandu to Dubai, Indigo Airlines to Delhi and Himalaya Airlines are waiting for the runway to open.

According to the Airport Authority, the technical team is continuing the repair work intensively and preparations are being made to resume flights as soon as possible.
