What you should know
There has been a controversy over the appointment of the Executive Director of Nepal Scouts.
On Saturday, the Scout Purification Campaign staged a sit-in in the office premises demanding a halt to the director appointment process. Those shortlisted for the directorship of Scouts were called for an interview on Saturday. The committee staged a sit-in outside the office while the interview was going on inside the office. There was a scuffle with the police during the sit-in. Campaign coordinator Devdoot Adhikari claimed that the advertisement for the directorship was wrong. A complaint has also been filed with the National Vigilance Office in this regard.
He alleges that the elected chief commissioner was suspended by outgoing Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary and appointed Devraj Ghimire, a teacher who teaches scouts at Nightingale School, as the commissioner. The campaign has demanded that the report prepared by the investigation committee to end the irregularities, inconsistencies and corruption within Scouts be made public and action taken against the guilty.
Minister Chaudhary had removed the outgoing chief commissioner of Scouts, Mahendra Raj Ranjit. The case is pending in the Supreme Court on the matter. The participants in the protest have claimed that the director should not be appointed while the case is pending in the court. It is claimed that there was collusion by specifying only the educational qualification for the appointment of joint secretary-level directors as a graduation degree.
Scout had conducted a written examination for the appointment of directors on Kartik 19. Scout stated that Aparna Karki of Okhaldhunga and Samrat Baral of Kathmandu were selected. The interview was canceled after the protest. The Vigilance Center has written to Scout demanding documents and opinions related to the process of filling the post of director. A complaint has been filed with the Vigilance Center claiming that the educational qualification is not sufficient and that Karki is a member of Scout.
