We have no choice but to go to the polls as we have no other option: Acting Chief Election Commissioner

What you should know

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that there is no other option than holding the House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari informed that the Election Commission has been preparing for the election since President Ram Chandra Poudel announced it for Falgun 21 on the recommendation of the interim government.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari said in a meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee under the National Assembly on Friday that the election should be held now that it has been announced. 'Elections will happen, they should.' Bhandari reiterated, 'Right now, we have no choice but to hold elections. Since it is an election without options, we have no other way.'

Bhandari also said that the commission has completed more than 60 percent of the preparation work for the election. He said that 60 percent of the work required for the election has been completed because the commission trusts the government and the government trusts the commission.

He said that the government has work to do for the election. Stating that it is a special nature of the election and it is difficult to manage it, he said that we should move forward and ensure that we hold the election.

Bhandari said that the old and new forces should not adopt a policy of prohibiting each other in the election. He said that the election to the House of Representatives must be held to maintain good governance and peace. Bhandari also said that the government has the task of ensuring peace and security for the election to the House of Representatives and ensuring resources for the Commission. 'The government should ensure that no one has to go to the polling station with a sense of insecurity.' After the date was announced, the Commission is involved in the election process and we are working hard to make it happen,' Bhandari said.

The Sushila Karki-led government formed after the Genji movement had recommended to the President to hold the election to the House of Representatives on March 21. Based on that recommendation, President Poudel had announced the election.
