Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane has given a statement to the Gen-G Incident Inquiry Commission for about seven hours. He has given his statement regarding the incident that took place at Nakkhu Prison on 24 Bhadra. Lamichhane, who reached for the statement at around 1 pm, returned only at 7 pm.
The commission had asked Lamichhane, who is also a former home minister, questions ranging from the protests in prison to why he returned. He was asked about many question papers. A letter was made public saying that the prison had given Lamichhane to get him out of prison. The letter embroiled Lamichhane in further controversy.
Nakkhu Prison Chief Satyaraj Joshi had given a statement regarding the letter that he had not prepared himself but had been forced to sign. The commission had also questioned him about this. In response, Lamichhane has given a statement saying that he came to know about the letter that was made public as soon as he was released from prison. A member of the commission said that he only claimed that the letter might have been prepared by the prison administration.
After reaching the commission formed to investigate the repression of the Gen-G movement, he said that despite the crowd and rioting everywhere, the prison security personnel and employees handed him over to the cadres of the Nepali Congress.
He claimed that he was also handed over to the workers because the decision was made to hand over everyone to their families because the prison was unsafe. He claimed that he had always been in favor of following the law and returned to jail.
He said that he had no knowledge of the letter until he was released from prison and that he only learned about it later.
‘The prison administration itself left me in the care of my family and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leaders,’ Ravi said in his statement, ‘I did not meet the jailer when I was released, so I did not know anything else.’
