Farmullah Mansur, the leader elected as Joint General Secretary from President Sher Bahadur Deuba's panel at the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, has proposed that Gagan Thapa be promoted as the future Prime Minister in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
In the Central Working Committee meeting on Wednesday, Mansur made another proposal that Thapa should be decided by the Central Working Committee as the future Prime Minister and that a special general convention should be held. He said that a special general convention cannot be postponed when 54 percent of the general convention delegates have already signed the demand. He stressed that a decision should be made immediately by the Central Working Committee. With this, Mansur has left the establishment party and turned to General Secretary Thapa. He had said that the Gen-G movement sought a change in the working style and methods of the old party and had maintained Thapa's line that the party should go to the election only after changing its policy and leader through the special general convention. He had also informed the meeting that he had stopped participating in the meetings of the establishment party faction. 'There have been two proposals personally, whether before or after the election.' Although it is customary for the general secretary to make proposals, there is no practice for the joint general secretary to submit an agenda,' he said, 'Among the general Congress, people have said that it would be better if Gagan Kumar Thapa was the party president and prime minister. He has also brought popular votes in the 14th general convention. That is why we decided to move forward with Thapa as the future prime minister. The Congress has moved forward with a new leader in the election.'
