The Foreign Employment Board has stated that it has provided compensation (financial assistance) to the families of 14,843 workers who died while on foreign employment within 17 years.

 

According to the report released on Tuesday at a program organized on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the board, compensation has been provided to the families of 14,843 workers who died between the fiscal years 2065/66 and 2081/82. This compensation was only available to the families of workers who died within the period of their work permit after going abroad for employment. Recently, the board has also started providing compensation to the families of workers who died within a year of the expiration of their work permit.

According to the board's executive director, Dwarika Upreti, compensation is being provided to the affected families in a simple manner. "We are providing transparent and online services for the amount of financial assistance," he said.

The highest compensation was provided to the families of 1,544 deceased workers in the last fiscal year. The compensation has been fixed at Rs 1 million since the last fiscal year. It was Rs 7 million before that.

During this period, the board provided medical expenses to 3,924 injured workers.

The board had a balance of Rs 7.57 billion in the board's workers' welfare fund until the last fiscal year.
