The department has taken action against Multi Adventure Pvt. Ltd. for the first time under the Immigration Act, 2049 BS by imposing a fine of Rs 40,000. The agency had taken German citizen Martin Schram on a trek in the Kanchenjunga area in Taplejung.
There is a legal provision that a trekking permit must be obtained from the Immigration Department before trekking in a prohibited area specified by the Nepal Government. According to the Immigration Regulations, 2051 BS
The Nepal government has declared some areas within 15 districts of the country as restricted areas, citing security and border sensitivity reasons. These include Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpa, Simkot, Namkha and Chunkheli in Humla, Manaslu area in Gorkha, Kanchenjunga in Taplejung, Gaurishankar-Lamabagar area in Dolakha, Kimathanka in Sankhuwasabha, Chhekampar and Chunchet in Gorkha, among others.
