TAN issued a public appeal on Monday to search for the missing tourist after a Russian woman pleaded via email to find her mother who was visiting Nepal.

Following an email from Netherlands resident Julia Khusainova, the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued a public appeal for help in the situation of Julia's mother and her friend Elena Stepina, two Russian nationals who are missing in Nepal.

According to an email received from Julia, her mother Alfia Khusainova has not been contacted since Wednesday, October 29, 2025, TAAN CEO Ramchandra Sedhai said.

'I am trying to find information about my mother Alfia Khusainova, who is a Russian national. I am very worried as she is currently trekking in Nepal and has not been in contact for a few days,' the email sent to TAAN reads. 'Please check if her name is registered in your trekking database and also confirm for which trekking route she has registered?' Possible routes Manaslu or Makalu-Barun (most likely) I am very worried as she has not contacted me since Wednesday, and there are also reports of snowfall and rescue in the area.’

She arrived in Kathmandu around October 25-26.  It is believed that she then started the trek to Manaslu or Makalu-Barun area.
