Commission of Inquiry into Bhadra 23 and 24 Incidents Takes Statement of Nakkhu Prison Chief

The Commission of Inquiry, formed under the leadership of former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, has recorded the statement of the then chief of Nakkhu Prison, Satyaraj Joshi.

The commission took statements on Sunday about the vandalism, arson and escaped prisoners at Nakkhu Prison during the protest on Bhadra 24 and the circumstances of the incident.

According to a member of the commission, the then chief gave a statement containing full details of the incident on Bhadra 24 for about two hours. Prison chief Joshi has given a statement to the commission that there had been attempts to vandalize and arson at Nakkhu Prison since morning that day and that the situation had become out of control due to restraint. Prisoners including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) president Ravi Lamichhane were kept in the prison and some of the incidents appeared to have been planned, he has mentioned in his statement.

He claimed that some prisoners had been handed over to their families, but most of the prisoners escaped taking advantage of the commotion.

After the protest led by Gen-G on Bhadra 23, the prison was also targeted when the next day's demonstration broke out. During the statement, the chief said that some prisoners, including Lamichhane, had voluntarily returned to prison, while some who were absconding had been arrested, and the search for those who are still absconding is ongoing.
