The Mechi Highway and Tamor Corridor roads, which were blocked due to floods and landslides caused by incessant rains, could not be operational even on Saturday. The main roads connecting the Mechi hills to the Terai have become difficult to navigate due to the blockage.
The road has been blocked due to the flood in the Nawa River on the border of Panchthar and Dhankuta under the Tamor Corridor and the landslide in the Rajduwali area under the Ilam section of the Mechi Highway. The rain has not stopped here yet. The Tamor Corridor Project has stated that it is difficult to manage the damage caused by the flood in the Nawa River on the Tamor Corridor Road due to the non-stop rain. Similarly, the road towards Kummayak on the Phidim and Kummayak border of the Tamor Corridor Road has been damaged, making it impossible for large vehicles to ply. Similarly, the Road Division Ilam and the Nepal Army have been trying to remove the obstruction in the Rajduwali section of the Mechi Highway since Saturday, but it has not been possible, said Division Chief Pawan Bhattarai. He said that they are trying to create a situation where small vehicles can ply here.
Similarly, the Phidim-Falout road section, which was blocked due to floods in the Feme River, has not been operational as of Saturday. The Infrastructure Development Office, Panchthar, has stated that plans are being made to divert traffic and repair the road once the water level recedes.
Life has become difficult as the main roads have been blocked. Passengers travelling to neighboring districts and the Terai have been in trouble.
