Police have arrested two youths who took a stolen police pistol home and detonated it on August 24.
The Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested Samir Shrestha, 23, a resident of Nuwakot and living in Naya Bazar, and Alex Nepali, 23, a resident of Kavre and living in Kshetrapati.
According to the office's SP Kazi Kumar Acharya, both were found to have carried pistols and fired them. 'A video of Samir firing a pistol while sitting on the roof of a house in Nagarjun Municipality has also been found,' he told Kantipur. 'Both have also admitted to firing the pistol during interrogation.'
A .54 caliber pistol, an empty magazine and 12 rounds of bullets have been recovered from them. According to the police, initially the police were deployed after receiving information that they were creating panic among the public by displaying weapons in the Ichangunarayan temple area. Later, not only weapons were recovered from them, but a video of them randomly firing was also found.
The police are preparing to extend the remand period for both the accused for weapons and ammunition related offences and proceed with a detailed investigation. Among the arrested, it has been found that a case has already been filed against Sameer for the offence of indecent behaviour.
