Gauri Bahadur Karki, chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, has said that he will ask the Ministry of Home Affairs and the government to investigate and take action regarding the criminal incident.
In a discussion with stakeholders at the District Administration Office, Bara Kalaiya on Wednesday, he said that he would urge the government to investigate the criminal incidents that occurred during the Gen-G movement on Bhadra 23 and the demonstration on Bhadra 24. Commission Chairman Karki, who is in Daudaha, said, "There is no need to wait for the commission's order to investigate criminal offenses under the criminal law. If there is evidence, the police will investigate and submit an investigation report to the government attorney's office. This is the legal system.
He said that the government attorney's office can register a case in court after receiving the police report. "The commission has already written to the police," he said, "If there is evidence (including videos) of direct involvement in the criminal offense, the police can investigate the incident. There is no need to wait for someone's order to take action against those directly involved according to the criminal law, not on the basis of rumors." He said that the commission will also submit its report to the government.
During the discussion, the victims complained that the police did not investigate even though they filed a complaint. The program was attended by the heads and representatives of the district government offices, former MPs who were victims of the arson and vandalism on Bhadra 24, and people's representatives of the municipality.
District Police Office spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Bijayraj Pandit said that a complaint has been filed against 28 people. On Bhadra 24, dozens of government offices, former MPs, and party offices in the district were arson and vandalized.
Former MP Kisan Shrestha demanded an investigation into the incident.
