Central Committee meeting will take decision on regular general convention: Khadka

What you should know

Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that the current Central Working Committee meeting will take a decision to move forward with the regular general convention within the time limit of the proposal for a special general convention.

Khadka said that the party will prepare a clear roadmap for the election announcement on Falgun 21, the party's internal general convention and the new political situation after Bhadra 23-24.

Speaking at a tea party organized on Monday at the party's central office, Sanepa, on the occasion of the 76th foundation day of the Congress's sister organization Tarun Dal, Khadka also expressed confidence that all the party's decisions will be passed unanimously.

The meeting of the Congress Central Working Committee, which was postponed on Kartik 1, will resume on the 13th. While Congress general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma are pressuring to take a decision on a special general convention if the regular general convention is not held within the coming Mangsir, Khadka said that the meeting will take a decision on the regular general convention.

Despite the regular general convention, the establishment party is saying that it should not be held in the coming Mangshir but only after the Falgun 21 elections, but the other party leaders Shekhar Koirala, General Secretaries Sharma and Thapa have been emphasizing that the agenda should be released within the coming Mangshir. Thapa and Sharma have been advocating for a special general convention if not a regular one within Mangshir, while leader Koirala has not been seen in favor of a special general convention.

‘Amid the new political situation, the current Central Working Committee meeting will take a decision unanimously based on the conclusions drawn from the spirit of unity and review,’ Khadka said, ‘We have put forward all the issues, extensive discussions and deliberations are taking place on the three.’ We will bring together different angles and emphases and take a decision by keeping in mind all the issues including the elections announced on Falgun 21, the regular general convention, and the conventions of fraternal organizations, and by integrating the proposal for the party's special general convention within the limits of the regular general convention.' He claimed to rise from the ashes and make the Congress the nation's melon once again.
