50 members of Genji United arrested from their homes

Nepal Police today detained 50 people who had gathered at Maitighar in Kathmandu to protest without obtaining permission from the local administration.

Members of Genji United, who had reached Maitighar to protest since this morning, have been taken under control for questioning by a team from the District Police Complex, Kathmandu.

The Police Complex, Kathmandu, has stated that they were taken under control for questioning as they were trying to protest without the permission of the local administration and as it was seen that possible clashes between other Genji groups would endanger the safety of the protesters. Out of the 50 people taken under control, 24 are women and 26 are men. The group had been protesting for the past two days.

Genji United leader Madan Karki said that they had sought permission from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu to protest freely but were not granted it. He said that the police administration's taking the protesters under control was undemocratic. 'We were trying to go with a positive attitude that Genji should be united.' But we were stopped. We did not get permission from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, it was not given,' he said.
