A bilateral meeting was held between National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal and Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick.
Chairman Dahal, who is in Geneva on the sidelines of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), met with the Australian Speaker.
The meeting discussed mutual relations, bilateral interests and cooperation, as well as parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
Stating that Australia has made significant contributions to Nepal in the fields of education, health, good governance and community forest management, Chairman Dahal expressed confidence that cooperation will continue in the coming days in areas such as combating climate change, renewable energy, local good governance.
Stating that there are more than 180,000 Nepalis in Australia, Chairman Dahal said that more than 60,000 students are studying in Australia.
Expressing gratitude for the safety, respect and supportive environment of the Nepali community and students in Australia, Chairman Dahal urged them to emphasize on expanding activities such as educational partnership, technical training and research exchange.
Meeting with IPU Secretary-General and Indian Delegation
Meanwhile, Chairman Dahal has met with the Indian Parliamentary Delegation and the Secretary-General of the Inter-Legislative Union (IPU) in Geneva.
During the meeting, Chairman Dahal informed about the recent Gen-G movement in Nepal, the formation of an interim government in the new political environment that emerged from it, and the announcement of elections, and said that Nepal is striving to strengthen democracy by holding elections on time.
Similarly, Chairman Dahal requested for the support and cooperation of friendly countries for the reconstruction of the structures damaged during the movement and for new elections.
