What you should know
Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has said that it is unfortunate that a responsible person in the government has made biased and defamatory statements.
Addressing a memorial meeting for Govinda Bahadur Malla in Surkhet on Tuesday, Acting President Khadka made it clear that the party would participate in the elections once the election environment is created.
Khadka said that those in the government should create an election environment. He said that the morale of the police should be increased, political parties should be taken into confidence and security arrangements should be ensured for the voters. 'The looted weapons of the police have not yet been returned. The escaped prisoners have not yet been brought to justice. The morale of the police has never fallen so much in history,' Khadka said. 'The government that has announced the elections has to raise the morale of the police, instill confidence in the parties participating in the elections, and make security arrangements for the general voters.'
Acting President Khadka said that the party would cooperate in the legal process. He said that if an investigation is carried out according to the legal process, it would cooperate and that it would not be acceptable for those in the government to spread confusion. 'We are open to any kind of legal process, investigation, but it is unfortunate that statements that are biased, create confusion and increase injustice come from responsible people in the government.' Khadka has also drawn the attention of the government to be aware of such issues.
Khadka clarified that the Congress is ready to participate in the upcoming elections announced on Falgun 21. 'If all the necessary conditions are created for the elections, the Nepali Congress is a democratic party, we are ready for the elections,' he said. He also informed that the party will take a decision on participating in the elections from the current central committee.
