One of the group leaders who went out to celebrate Balihang Tangnam in the community leads the procession in the Limbu language and also gives blessings in their own language. At that time, the scene of the group members playing Deusi in their traditional costumes is very fun and attractive. They go around the village singing the fame of King Balihang and have fun. In this way, the group playing Deusi is given a basket full of rice, cell roti, money and a glass of wine as a donation.
Rajendra Kumar Javegu, Chancellor of Yakthung Pragya Pratishthan, an expert in Kirat history, said that wearing Bhaitika is not mandatory in the Limbu community, which plays the role of a deusi-bhailo as a name. ‘In Limbu culture, it is believed that a girl should not give flowers to her mother and a mother should not give flowers to her girl.’ However, recently, the Limbu community has also started wearing Bhaitika,’ he said.
The Limbu community celebrates this festival as Balihang Tangnam according to the Yakthung (Limbu) calendar. Harichandra Lawati, author of the Balihang Tangnam work and a scholar of Limbu language and culture, says that Balihang Tangnam is celebrated for four days. The Limbu community lights lamps on the new moon day and worships the peace of all the planets in the universe, including the Earth, the Sun, and others, in the temple.
The Magar, Rai and Tamang communities of the east also celebrate Tihar as a festival to preserve their originality. The Magars dress up in their original costumes and dance the Hurra dance, while the Sakela and Tamang communities in the Rai community play the Damfu and Tamang cello while dancing and playing Deusi-Bhailo.
