A corruption case has been filed against 14 people, including outgoing Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population Sangita Kaushal Mishra. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed a case against 14 people, including Mishra, in a special court on Sunday, demanding a compensation of Rs 146.85 million.

The CIAA has filed a case against Dr Mishra, the then Director of the Management Division, Dr Shravan Kumar Thapa, the Chief of the Supply Management Branch, Surendra Kumar Chaurasia, and the Director of the Department, Dr Bibe Kumar Lal, informed the spokesperson of the authority, Rajendra Kumar Poudel.

According to him, the then Chief Controller of Accounts Bhuwan Prasad Kafle, the Department's Legal Officer Sita Ghimire, Senior Public Health Officer Deepak Adhikari, the then Branch Officer Yadav Prasad Sapkota, the then Accounts Officer Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, Accountant Tilakram Dhakal, Biomedical Engineer Ashish Chauhan, the then Biomedical Engineer of the Department, Padma Mishra, Public Health Inspector of the Department's Central Store, Pathlaiya Bara, Sanjay Kumar Shah, and the head of the supply company Maxim Incorporation Traders Pvt. Ltd., Sundar Bhusal, have also been made defendants in the said case.

A fine of Rs 146.85 crore has been imposed on them each. They have been accused of irregularities in matters including the procurement of health equipment. Mishra was last seen as the health minister in the interim government led by Sushila Karki. That is why she resigned from the post of additional secretary. However, Mishra's appointment was stopped at the last minute after it was revealed that an investigation was underway into the corruption case.

She had become the head of Koshi Hospital and Maternity Hospital Thapathali and the Director General of the Health Services Department. She was dragged into the investigation for alleged irregularities in the procurement of health equipment while she was the Director General of the department.
