The district court of Kathmandu has ordered the former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara to be sent to prison for pre-trial detention.

The district court made this order on Wednesday after the arrest of the former Speaker Mahara, who was arrested for gold smuggling. After this order of the district, Mahara will remain in jail.

District Judge Hark Bahadur Chhetri's bench ordered Mahara to be sent to jail, according to Deepak Shrestha, the information authority of the district court. 

Mahara was arrested for smuggling gold through electronic cigarettes (Vape). A statement was made in the court of Chhetri on Tuesday. After the argument failed, he was returned to custody and an argument was held behind closed doors on Wednesday.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police arrested Mahara, the leader of the Maoist center, on Sunday. The charge sheet was submitted to the district court on Monday. 

A case was filed against Mahara for the crime of customs evasion and organized crime. 5 March  2080  If he escaped, he was arrested for further investigation. 

It was found that Li Hansong, a Chinese citizen who came to Nepal via Fly Dubai ship on 10 January 079, brought gold in 730 electronic cigarettes (vapes) in 2 suitcases. A case had already been filed against Mahara's son and other defendants in the said case.
