The supporters of Nepali Congress demanding a special convention have prepared to register a written petition today demanding a special convention with the signatures of 52 percent central convention delegates to increase moral pressure on party chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba.
After the party officials could not reach an agreement on bringing the agenda of the regular convention within November, they are preparing to submit a petition with signatures for a special convention. The leader of the
campaign, Gururaj Ghimire, said that 52 percent of the delegates of the central convention had signed. Demanding a special convention with the signatures of 52 percent of the representatives seems to create a moral crisis for Chairman Deubadeuba to remain in the leadership.
Deuba was elected as the chairman of the 14th National Convention by the majority of the central convention delegates. When the majority of those representatives have now signed for the special convention, Deuba will face a moral crisis.
Ghimire said in a conversation with Kantipur, 'Our plan was to register already. For that we took time at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. However, we stopped because the Deputy Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka requested to wait for some time. Today we register. We are ready to register it as soon as the meeting of the Central Performance Committee is over.' In the constitution of the party, there is a mandatory provision to call a special convention within three months if a petition is submitted with the signatures of 40 council representatives.
