There has been a demand for UML President KP Sharma Oli to hand over the leadership. After the Gen-G movement and the subsequent demonstrations, the major parties in the disbanded House of Representatives are demanding the transfer of leadership.

At the UML secretariat meeting held on Friday in Gundu, Bhaktapur, the leaders demanded that the leadership should be handed over from the upcoming convention. In the meeting, Senior Vice President Ishwar Pokharel, Vice Presidents Yuvraj Gyawali, Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Surendra Pandey demanded that the leadership should be handed over from the upcoming convention. Vice President Ram Bahadur Thapa also said that moral questions have arisen in the leadership after the Gen-G movement.

"There has been a demand from the leaders that the leadership should be handed over and handed down," said an official, "After the Gen-G movement, the opinion that President KP Oli should lead the way on the basis of ethics is getting stronger." He has been saying that he will not leave the leadership until his health supports him.

After the secretariat meeting, Deputy Secretary General Pradeep Gyawali said that the congress will decide on the issues of leadership and succession.

There is certainly concern throughout the decade, some friends are saying that we should gradually move on the path of leadership transfer and move on the path of generational transition. We have paid attention to all those voices," he said after the meeting. "We have to protect the legacy we have established over the years. In times of crisis, the leadership has to be defended, while the sentiments of the Aam Janata Party workers have to be contained . We will address all the issues when we reach the convention.'

Oli has been pressured to leave the post after the UML-led government was forced out due to the Gen-G movement.

Even in the past, despite the demand that the UML should not hold more than two terms in the same position and impose an age limit of 70 years, the proposal failed in the Legislative Assembly. According to Oli's wishes, both provisions were removed. The legislative convention held at Godavari in Lalitpur from August 20 to 22 cleared the way for KP Sharma Oli to become the president for the third term. The legislative convention of UML removed the 70-year-old age limit for office bearers and the provision not to serve more than two terms in the executive position from the draft of the new constitution and ensured the legal provision for Oli to become president again.

The first legislative convention held in August 2078 passed the provision of 70 years of age limit for party leadership and no more than two terms in the executive position . But the second legislative convention, which lasted for three days in Godavari, amended it and removed it .

In the central committee meeting held in the first week of July, there was a demand to open the way for the transfer of leadership to the second generation by maintaining the age limit of 70 years and two terms for the leaders, but this arrangement was removed from the new draft law . The majority of representatives of the legislative convention held the opinion that Oli was the unopposed candidate for the next president.
