After defeating Kuwait in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific Cricket Qualifier on Wednesday, Nepal advanced towards the possibility of reaching the World Cup for the second time in a row. Rohit Poudel touched a unique record as the Nepalese captain from this match.

This was the 50th match played by Nepal in Twenty20 International under his captaincy. 23-year-old Rohit has captained Nepal in the most matches in Twenty20 internationals. This makes him the most successful captain of Nepal. 

Apart from Rohit, Paras Khadka from Nepal has led with 27, Sandeep Lamichhane with 18 and Gyanendra Malla with 12 in Twenty20 international cricket. Under the captaincy of Rohit, Nepal has also won the most 27 matches in Twenty20 internationals. Similarly, Nepal has won 13 games under the captaincy of Sandeep, 11 under the captaincy of Paras and 9 under the captaincy of Gyanendra.

Under the captaincy of Rohit, Nepal has lost 18 matches and three matches have been tied. Under his captaincy, Nepal's winning percentage is 54 . Under Gyanendra's captaincy, Nepal's winning percentage is 75 and under Sandeep's captaincy, Nepal's winning percentage is 72.22 . Rohit captained Nepal for the first time against Mongolia as part of the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China on September 27, 2023, where he scored 61 runs off 27 balls with 2 fours and 6 sixes. But this game did not become the main reason to remember for his performance . Because in this game, the Nepali team was able to create many world records. 

Nepal scored 314 runs by losing 3 wickets in this match. 300 runs became possible for the first time in Twenty20 International. Kushal Malla completed 100 runs in 34 balls and set a record for scoring a hundred in the fewest balls in Twenty20 internationals. This record has been broken. However, Dipendra Singh Airi's half-century in 9 balls will never be broken in history. In that sequence, he hit 6 consecutive sixes. Nepal won this match by 273 runs, which was also the biggest margin of victory in Twenty20 internationals.

Under the captaincy of Rohit, Nepal made a comeback by playing the Twenty-20 World Cup in America and West Indies last year. Nepal has returned to the 'global stage' after 10 years since the Twenty-20 World Cup was played in Bangladesh under the captaincy of Paras in 2014. Under Rohit's captaincy, Nepal won the three-match Twenty20 international series with West Indies by 2-1 just two weeks ago. For the first time, Nepal has achieved this success by playing a Twenty-20 international series with a Test-recognized nation.

'The wicket was very difficult, we were thinking of scoring around 150-160 runs . But the way Kuwait bowled and the bounce of the wicket was not normal . The credit should also be given to Kuwait's bowling,' Rohit told the official broadcasters, 'My partnership with Kushal (Bhurtel) was good . But they bowled well till 15-16 overs .
