The Election Commission has prepared discussions with political parties regarding the upcoming House of Representatives elections. The Commission has called the parties for discussion on October 30th.
Mahadev Panth, secretary of the commission, said that the parties have been invited to the commission for discussions regarding the elections to the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. The commission has written to 29 political parties on Wednesday. 122 parties are registered with the commission. In the first stage, the commission called the parties represented in the disbanded House of Representatives, Provincial Assembly and the local level as it may be inconvenient to discuss all the parties at once. At the local level, the parties represented by ward members have been identified and called for discussion.
The election of the House of Representatives will be held on February 21. Likewise, there is an agenda for the election of the vacant members of the National Assembly on January 20. The tenure of 19 members in the National Assembly is coming to an end on February 20. According to the election law, the election of the members of the National Assembly should be held one month before the end of the term of office.
Secretary Panthi said that since the date of the National Assembly election is pre-estimated, the commission is also preparing for it. Elections will be held for 18 of the 19 vacant members of the National Assembly. The term of office of one member nominated by the President is expiring. The position will be filled through the same process.
The commission has called the parties with an agenda for discussions on the House of Representatives, National Assembly elections and various topics. After the Gen-G movement on 23 and 24 August, the House of Representatives was dissolved on 27 August and new elections were announced on 21 February. It was criticized that the government or the commission did not discuss with the political parties even after almost a month after the announcement of the election.
