Also Gen-G in Disaster Management

What you should know

When there is a risk of floods and landslides across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also mobilized Gen-G for countermeasures. From Friday evening to Saturday, Gen-G leaders have been used to coordinate with the district.

When the Weather Forecasting Division said there was a risk of floods and landslides after three days of heavy rain, the ministry officials called some Gen-G leaders to Singh Darbar. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gen-G leaders Sudan Gurung, Yujan Rajbhandari, Bhavna Raut and others were called. Home Minister Omprakash Aryal himself discussed with them.

'This government was not allowed to weaken under any circumstances, so we have taken everyone's help to leave no stone unturned in the response,' said an official of the Home Minister's Secretariat, 'At the same time, we also included those who had already participated in the discussion on behalf of Jen-G.' Youth Sagar Dhakal posted the news about the Panchthar accident on social media. If he had not kept that detail, the officials of the home estimated that the information about the incident at Unkontar place would have been received late. As soon as Dhakal posted the information, the officials of District Administration Office, Panchthar were immediately dispatched.

'Coordination was also being done by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it became easy to rescue after receiving information on time,' said Arun Pokharel, chief district officer of Panchthar, 'we rescued 2 people by calling a military helicopter.' Among those called to the ministry are Gen-G with volunteer group 100 groups.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs received calls from various districts, there were many tasks to be coordinated," said an official of the ministry, "that's why we tried to mobilize everyone in the high-risk areas on Saturday night." On Saturday afternoon, Sudan Gurung also attended the meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

He also uploaded the video on the social network Facebook in which he gave various instructions to the Authority's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dinesh Bhatt. He said that the ambulance should also be kept as a top priority. Then had to be rescued.'

The presence of Sudan in the meeting of the authority and the issues he instructed have also been criticized. But Home Minister Omprakash Aryal has claimed that Gurung was called as an expert on the basis of his experience of rescue in disaster and he also narrated his experience in the same way.

'There was a meeting at the disaster authority on Saturday. He was also called there. He did not give instructions. He was called because of his expertise regarding the empty disaster," Aryal told Kantipur, "He has more expertise than others. With the aim of using the same, the government has taken it as he put his point in the discussion. Those who have more experience, that experience will also be accepted by the government of Nepal.

He argued that there was no need to dispute about the issues and priorities that need to be fulfilled immediately, including citizens and Gen-G representatives.

Sudan has also told Kantipur that it has been 10 years since they worked in the disaster, 'We ourselves called the home minister and informed him that there might be problems during the disaster, accordingly, now the disaster meeting is about to be held, and you were also called to come,' he said, 'There was no need to dispute only about the fact that I gave instructions in the video. I have been involved in similar disasters in the past as well. Shouldn't I know how to talk together, that was a separate matter.

Saying that it was not the first time that they sat in such a meeting, he said that he only shared the knowledge that he had.
