District Disaster Management Committee Sindhupalchok has decided to stop the operation of vehicles on Arani highway and subsidiary roads from 7 pm to 5 am for three days.
After the Department of Water and Meteorology issued a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains, keeping in view the risk of possible floods and landslides, the operation of all types of vehicles has been banned in the district at night.
The district administration office has stated that the highway may be closed at other times depending on the situation. The meeting held today under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Vandhu Prasad Bastola has decided to stop vehicular traffic on all main and auxiliary roads in the district including Arani Highway from 17th to 20th October from 7 pm to 5 am. Vehicles used in essential services such as fire engines and ambulances will be allowed to run safely.
The administration has said that preparations for security operations have been completed by appealing to the residents of the riverside settlements to stay safe. The meeting instructed the local level, security agencies, industry and commerce associations, health organizations and volunteers to be fully prepared for disaster management.
