Energy Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising has inspected the movement of vehicles on BP highway and the reconstruction of damaged roads on Wednesday.
During the festival, Minister Ghising himself along with the Director General of the Road Department and related project officers were deployed in the field to understand the problems faced by passengers traveling on the BP highway during the festival, traffic management and the reconstruction situation after the damage caused to the highway by last year's floods.
Minister Ghising urged the concerned parties to quickly complete the permanent highway reconstruction work while speeding up the temporary work for easy traffic management so that passengers traveling to and from Kathmandu during the festival do not suffer. The contract has been signed and the work has been started on the 25 km section of BP highway which was damaged by the flood in October last year. The remaining section will be made by JICA with grant support.
The construction of the BP highway, which is important for connecting the federal capital with the eastern region, was completed with the support of the Japanese government. The 160 km long BP highway was damaged by 30.5 km in last year's floods. The current intermediate lane will be made into two lanes on the section of the damaged highway.
