The structure and equipment of the 'Medicine Science Laboratory' at the central office of the Authority in Tangal were destroyed by fire on 24 August.
After the demonstration called by the 'Gen-G' generation with demands including corruption control and restoration of good governance broke out, huge wealth was also destroyed in the center and state offices of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority due to vandalism and arson.
Due to the fire on August 24, the structure and equipment of the "Medicine Science Laboratory" in the central office of the authority in Tangal were burnt down. During the investigation of corruption, the authority was conducting forensic examination from this laboratory. The library on the first floor of the authority has also been burnt to ashes. The Administration Division of the Authority was burnt and the staff details and internal administrative documents were burnt. According to the authority, some computers, hard disk and money were also looted and the concerned parties have been appealed to hand over the looted equipment. Some devices have started to be returned and more are yet to come.
According to Rajendra Kumar Paudel, spokesperson of the authority, there was no damage to the files related to corruption investigation in Tangal. "Though there was no damage to the research files in the office in Tangal due to vandalism and arson on August 24, the forensic lab, documents/details of the administration division, the library were burnt, 18 four-wheelers and 68 motorcycles parked in Tangal were also burnt," Paudel told Kantipur. spokesperson Paudel, 18 four-wheelers and 68 two-wheelers of Tangal office were destroyed by fire. The research files and buildings of Itahari, Hetaunda, Pokhara and Butwal were completely burnt down. 2 in Itahari, 4 in Hetounda, 3 in Butwal and 2 in Pokhara four wheeler vehicles were burnt. According to the authority, the offices in Bardibas, Nepalganj and Kanchanpur are safe. Documents, research files and other physical structures including buildings are safe.
"The center also has archives and details of research files of provincial offices, digital details are also kept, so even though there are some obstacles to research, it will soon be working regularly, work has already started from some of them," said spokesperson Paudal. Thousands of complaints are under consideration in the Authority regarding corruption and damage to public property by misuse of public position. As of August of the current year, about 8,000 complaints are under investigation by the Authority. According to the annual report of the commission for the year 2081/82, out of 37,000 complaints, 29,000 have been delayed and about 8,000 have been transferred to the current year.
