On August 24, after the vandalism and arson of various prisons, the defendants in the fake Bhutanese refugee case, former Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa's security adviser Indrajit Rai and Bechan Jha escaped.
They returned to Central Jail Sundhara on Wednesday afternoon.
On August 23, 2018, Pandey, Rai and Jhap were lost in contact with 28 prisons and 14 thousand 43 prisoners, including those in police custody, who escaped after the demonstration that broke out the next day on August 24. After the escapees started to be caught in a rush, they returned to Badhbar themselves to the prison office Sundhara.
Around 7 thousand 843 prisoners and detainees were arrested among those who escaped from various prisons/prisons and police custody during the protest after the movement led by 'Zen-G'. Out of 14 thousand 43 escaped prisoners and detainees, 6 thousand 200 are still absconding. About 1,000 of the fugitives are foreign nationals.
