The Election Commission has postponed the by-election of the House of Representatives announced in Rupandehi-3 for October 17th.
According to the Commission, after President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives and announced the election date for the House of Representatives for February 21st, all the previously announced election programs for Rupandehi-3 have been postponed.
Commission spokesperson and joint secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai published a statement on Monday and mentioned that the rest of the by-election program has been postponed as President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives and set the date for the House of Representatives election on February 21.
According to Section 68 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074, by-elections will be held on Monday 2082/07/17 in Rupandehi District, House of Representatives Member Constituency No. 3, as the date of the by-elections has been set by the Commission, and the announcement published by the President's office dated 2082.05.27, the Honorable President Mr. Ramchandra Paudeljiu has dissolved the House of Representatives and elected a new House of Representatives on Thursday, 2082/11/21 As the date has been fixed, the statement states, "There is a request for information from all concerned regarding the decision of the commission meeting dated 2082/05/30 to cancel all the remaining programs related to the by-election of the member constituencies number 3 of Rupandehi district."
After the election date was set by the commission, small parties including the RSVP decided on their candidates and started campaigning. UML had sent the candidate to the Central Committee for recommendation, while Congress and Maoists had not even started the process of candidate selection.
