The building of the Transport Management Department was destroyed due to arson and vandalism during the demonstration last Tuesday. Since the building became dilapidated after the fire, it is not possible to repair it immediately, so the search for an alternative building has been started.
For the time being, regular work has been started from the passenger waiting room of the department premises. With the fire in the department, the process of applying for a new driver's license has been closed.
Keshav Khatiwada, deputy director general of the department, said that the service is planned to start after Dasain according to the preparations so far.
"The data backup of the office is fine, there was a lot of damage from the fire, 20,000 licenses were printed," he said, "Some have been burned, some have been lost, and we are still working to understand how much damage has been done." According to the department, the department is preparing to collect the damages for the license that has been printed and then reprint it again. Every day, 6 to 7 thousand people from all the seven provinces used to fill the form for a new license. According to which 4 to 5 thousand passed the trial for new license.
Similarly, in the department, up to 300 online and 200 in writing are filling out forms for emergency licenses daily, so the service is stopped . License service is available through 42 transport management offices.
During the demonstration, all the embossed number plates that were prepared to be sent to the provinces and related transport offices for connection were burnt . According to the department, the plate production plant was also burnt down. According to
department sources, 8 lakh 19 thousand 59 embossed number plates were prepared till July. Out of that, only about two lakhs were sent to the respective provinces and the offices under it. The remaining number plate is in the department and was destroyed by fire while it was being prepared to be sent.
Now, according to the department's estimate, 6,19,000 number plates have been burned and destroyed. According to department sources, 632,141 two-wheelers, 164,191 four-wheelers, 14,582 heavy vehicles and 8,145 three-wheelers were produced.
