The government had banned social media for those who are not registered in Nepal. Stakeholders and lawyers filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that the government's decision violates the fundamental rights of the constitution and freedom of expression.
After the Supreme Court rejected them, they have prepared to file a petition in the bench. If the court orders registration, they will be submitted for re-registration. If the bench approves the bench, it will not be registered. The government has banned social networks including Facebook for not being included in the
list. On Thursday, the Ministry of Communication has given the Nepal Telecommunication Authority to ban social networks that have not been listed within the specified time frame.
The full bench of the Supreme Court issued a directive order in the name of the Government of Nepal to evaluate and monitor unwanted content before operation of domestic or foreign online and social media platforms of domestic or foreign origin, and the Ministry of Communication has decided to ban social media.
