Effect of YouTube ban: No option was found for live broadcasting of Parliament

What you should know

When the government shuts down YouTube and other social networks without prior preparation, the live broadcast of the Federal Parliament meeting will be stopped.

Even after three days of shutting down YouTube, the Federal Parliament has not found an option on how to broadcast the upcoming meetings live and bring parliamentary activities to the general public.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire and Speaker of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal have repeatedly consulted with the officials of the Secretariat on how to manage the live broadcasting of the Parliament. The meeting of the National Assembly is scheduled for 1:15 pm.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Dahal, informed that the Parliament Secretariat is constantly discussing the alternatives to YouTube. "It has not been decided whether Monday's meeting of the National Assembly will be broadcast live or not," said Dahal, "the government must think of some alternative". There are issues related not only to this House but also to the common people. There are things like business and business. The government must find some alternative, it must find an alternative within two or four days.' Dahal also said that there is a possibility that parliamentarians will talk about the social media ban during the parliament meeting, 'Let the parliamentarians keep their points, all the common people are also speaking.'

The official of the Parliament Secretariat stated that there is a problem when the government shuts down YouTube without taking any interest in what effect it will have on the Parliament when it shuts down the social network.

Every meeting of the National Assembly and the House of Representatives is broadcasted live from the YouTube channel. Common people were able to watch the activities in the parliament on YouTube. However, on the 19th of Bhadra, the government closed 26 social networks including YouTube and Facebook. Since then, the officials of the Parliament have been discussing how to broadcast the House of Representatives and the National Assembly live. 'We are discussing various options . After the government deactivated YouTube, it was not possible to live on it. There is no possibility of live . Parliament's YouTube channel has been deactivated. The alternative is whether to go to the website or not," said Ekram Giri, the spokesperson of the Parliament. We have the video, but common citizens will not be able to see the activities of the parliament. We are preparing to see if it is possible to go live from the website of the parliament itself if possible. We have run out of time to prepare. We are trying to broadcast live.' Spokesperson Giri said that the speaker and the president of the national assembly have instructed to arrange for live broadcasting of the meeting as much as possible.

Spokesperson Giri said that there is not enough time to purchase the technology to broadcast the Parliament meeting live. According to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, he said that there is lack of time for the purchase of technical materials. 'The time is very short, there is a problem with the live broadcast from the website as some new technical materials have to be purchased. Had to manage while moving to a new setup of live broadcasts . It seems like there will be problems later,' said Giri.
