After the talks between Prime Minister Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Saturday, the Foreign Ministry of China issued a statement saying that Nepal's (Global Security Initiative) support for the GSI (Global Security Initiative) was claimed by China.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli returned home on Wednesday after completing his visit to China. Prime Minister Oli visited China for 5 days from August 14 to 18. Oli went to China to participate in the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held on August 15-16 in the Chinese city of Tianjin. Oli addressed the SCO Plus meeting held during the conference.
After the talks between Prime Minister Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Saturday, the Prime Minister's visit was drawn into controversy due to the Chinese claim that Nepal supported GSI (Global Security Initiative) in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
GSI is China's security strategy. GSI was not mentioned in the statement issued by Nepal after the meeting. The Nepali side claimed that there was no discussion about GSI in the Oli-C meeting and that the Chinese statement was false.
After returning from China, Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai claimed that Nepal supported only the 'Global Development Initiative' (GDI) and not the GSI. He did not support other matters. Be clear about that. We have made our things clear," he said, "Whatever the policy of the Nepalese government is, that will be maintained."
Foreign Secretary Rai said that through Nepal's participation in the SCO Summit, Nepal's national interests have been promoted. In his meeting with Chinese President Xi, Prime Minister Oli expressed his objection to the agreement between India and China to trade Nepal's territory through the Lipulek crossing, he informed.
"The Prime Minister requested the President of China not to implement the agreement," Rai said. Rai said that Prime Minister Oli's bilateral meetings and talks with heads of state and government of other countries have contributed significantly to further enhancing Nepal's reputation in the international world.
During his visit to China, Prime Minister Oli had a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders. Rai informed that Prime Minister Oli invited him to visit Nepal during the meeting with Putin. He said that the two leaders discussed the issues of strengthening relations with Russia and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education and culture as well as air connectivity.
The Prime Minister had a meeting with the Presidents of Laos and Maldives and the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Cambodia. After the SCO conference in Tianjin, Prime Minister Oli reached Beijing on August 17. There he had a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Chang. Various issues of Nepal-China relations were discussed in the meeting.
A question has also been raised in the Parliament about the Chinese claim that Nepal has supported GSI. The parliamentarians have demanded the government to clarify about the GSI in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The ruling Congress MP Dilendra Prasad Badu said that the government should make it clear that Nepal has agreed to the GSI proposal in a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry after the meeting between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday.
Why and how the commission is mentioned in the release of a topic that has not been discussed? The Prime Minister's Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should clarify this," said Badu.
Badu said that the answer given by Chinese President Xi on the ongoing border dispute regarding Nepal's Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani was not satisfactory. Not only India but also China automatically joins the western border of Nepal. The western border of Nepal's Darchula is not only connected with India but also with China. That is the trilateral point. According to the Sugauli Treaty, Limpiyadhura is the trilateral border point. That's why China comes to join," said Badu. Therefore, Badu said that all the three countries should solve the dispute together. Badu is an elected MP from Darchula.
Likewise, CPN-S MP Prakash Jwala also said that since China has clearly claimed that Nepal has supported GSI, the government should respond to that issue. In the press release issued after the meeting between Oli and Si, China has clearly claimed that Nepal supports its security strategy in GSI. What is the reality of this?', he said, 'According to the Constitution of Nepal, Nepal is committed to a non-aligned foreign policy. Nepal cannot stand for any military strategy. The government should immediately release its official opinion on this matter.'
Maoist MP Lekhnath Dahal said that decisions on foreign affairs should not be taken alone and everyone should have a common opinion. "We can believe that no one should take an immature decision in foreign affairs, they have not taken it," he said, "We can make an official opinion only after the Prime Minister himself comes to the Parliament and gives an official answer."
