Three prisoners have died in Sunsari's Jhumka Jail due to an unknown disease within four days. At the beginning, the prisoners showed symptoms like high fever, breathing problems and vomiting and died during the treatment.

46-year-old Jaleshwar Yadav of Rajviraj-8, Saptari, who was taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan after suddenly collapsing on Wednesday afternoon, died on Wednesday evening. He was serving jail time in an extortion case.

Earlier, two prisoners died on the same day last Monday. According to the prison administration, 48-year-old Ramdev Urao of Gadhi Rural Municipality-6 of Sunsari and 24-year-old Sagar Rai of Dharan died. Urao was serving his sentence in the duty-killing case, while Rai was in jail pending trial in the drug-related case.

On Saturday night, Urao was taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment due to respiratory problems. Urao died at 12:30 on Monday morning during treatment. Another prisoner, Rai, who is in jail pending trial in a drug case, was taken to the VP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences after suffering from vomiting and immobility. He also died during treatment on Monday morning.

After the death of three people in four days in the prison, the team of District Security Committee Sunsari has conducted a health camp since Wednesday night. Sunsari police chief SP Suman Timsina informed that the health examination of the inmates of both blocks of the prison has been started.

He said that more than 160 people have been tested by midnight and the cause of the illness will be revealed after their report comes. There are 1,794 prisoners in both blocks of Jhumka prison.
