Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has returned home after completing his visit to the People's Republic of China on Wednesday. Prime Minister Oli visited China for 5 days from August 14th to 18th.
Oli went to China to participate in the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held on August 15-16 in Tianjin, China.
After the talks between Prime Minister Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China issued a statement saying that Nepal supported the GSI. GSI (Global Security Initiative) is China's security strategy . Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai, a member of the Prime Minister's visiting team at Tribhuvan International Airport, said that Nepal has supported China's 'Global Development Initiative'. He did not support other matters. It should be clear. We have made our things clear,' he said, 'Whatever the policy of the Nepal government is, it will be maintained.'
Prime Minister Oli did not interview journalists after returning from China. Foreign Secretary Rai said that Nepal's national interest has been promoted through Nepal's participation in the SCO summit. In his meeting with Chinese President Xi, Prime Minister Oli expressed objection to the agreement between India and China to trade Nepalese territory through the Lipulek crossing. "The Honorable Prime Minister requested the President of China not to implement the agreement," Rai said.
Apart from the Chinese President, Prime Minister Oli also had a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On that occasion, Rai has informed that Prime Minister Oli has invited Putin to visit Nepal. He said that the two leaders discussed the issues of strengthening relations with Russia and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education and culture as well as air connectivity. The Prime Minister had a meeting with the Presidents of Laos and Maldives and the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Cambodia.
After Tianjin, Prime Minister Oli reached Beijing on August 17. There, he had a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Chang and discussed various issues of Nepal-China relations. On August 18 (September 3), he returned to Nepal on the same day after participating in the 80th anniversary celebration of the victory of the Chinese war against Japanese encroachment and the world anti-fascist war. Rai said that Prime Minister Oli's bilateral meetings with the Chinese President and Vice President and talks with the heads of state and government of other countries have contributed significantly to the work of enhancing Nepal's reputation in the international world. The Prime Minister's visiting party included his wife Radhika Shakya, former Deputy Prime Minister Congress Vice Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka, Education Minister Raghuji Pant, Tourism Minister Badri Pandey and Prime Minister's Economic Adviser Yuvraj Khatiwada and senior government officials.
