The Federal Civil Service Bill has been unanimously passed by the Legislative Management Committee. The entire report of the committee on the bill was read and passed. The bill is on the agenda to be passed by the National Assembly today.
Even though the government ministers actively tried to reverse the decision regarding the retirement age of the civil servants, the government eventually backed down from that position.
The Legislation Management Committee decided that the retirement age of civil servants will be 60 years and will be implemented in three stages. Now, in Section 58 of the Act, the mandatory retirement age of civil servants will be 58 years until the current financial year, then 59 years, and 1 year after that, the age of all employees will be 60 years.
General Administration Minister Bhagwati Neupane said that the said provision should be reversed and the age of retiring employees should be 59 since the commencement of the Act. When the minister said that the decision of the committee should be reversed, the MPs of the ruling party Congress and UML also supported it. The committee was undecided on this matter for two days. In Tuesday's meeting, Minister Neupane left her position that the committee's decision should be reversed.
