Officials of the agitating Nepal Teachers' Federation staged a sit-in at the office of the National Independent Party on Tuesday. As part of the first phase of the movement, the federation has been staging sit-ins at the offices of political parties, demanding the amendment of the bill submitted to the House of Representatives along with the report from the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee.
Meanwhile, Federation President Laxmikishore Subedi, Co-President Nanumaya Parajuli, General Secretary Tula Bahadur Thapa and others have been protesting at the party's office since last week.
Earlier Congress, UML and Maoist, A sit-in was held for two hours daily at the CPN S office. If the demand is not met by the 21st, the federation has been warning that it will hold a second stage of disruptive protest. There is a possible agenda for submitting a proposal to discuss and pass the School Education Bill in the House of Representatives on August 25.
On the 9th of last year, the protest was started by handing over attention letters to the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Education Minister Raghuji Pant and chief whips of political parties. According to the federation, the provision of transfer of teacher posts to the local level in the bill is unacceptable. The federation demands that the posts should remain within the federation. There is a demand that 75 percent of temporary teachers should be made permanent from within, while the bill mentions that 60 percent should be made from within.
There is a demand that the amount given to temporary teachers under Golden Tandsec should be deducted, permanent teachers should be promoted periodically, and the calculation of temporary service period should be made in the bill. The federation has also expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement of departmental action against teachers. There is a demand that the position and salary of school staff should be ensured, and the position and service facilities of child teachers should be arranged.
Similarly, it is mentioned in the demand letter that the service facilities of private school teachers should be ensured, the trade union rights of private schools should be ensured, and the education council should be arranged. The teachers' federation held a demonstration in Kathmandu for 29 days last May and March on the issue of the school education bill.
