Nepal has implemented a new permit fee for climbing Everest and other mountains from Monday. The government has made a new provision for fees in Mountain Climbing (Sixth Amendment) Regulations 2081 approved last November.

According to the same regulation, the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on January 26 decided to increase the fees related to mountain climbing. The fee increased by the decision of the Council of Ministers has been implemented from Monday.  This is the first time in a decade that the fee has been increased . The fee was last revised on January 1, 2015 .

Director of Tourism Department Gautam Himal said that for foreign climbers climbing Everest in spring season (March-May), it has increased from $11,000 to $15,000 per person . He said - 'It has officially come into effect from Monday, with the start of autumn.' The permit fee for winter (December-February) and rainy (June-August) yams has increased from $2750 to $3750 per climber.

Similarly, for Nepali climbers, the fee for climbing Mount Everest in the spring season has increased from 75,000 Nepali rupees to 150,000 rupees.

How much is the fee for other mountains?

Along with Everest, the fees of other mountains have also increased. For mountains above 8,000 meters, the spring fee has increased from $1,800 to $3,000. 

This fee has increased from 900 dollars to 1500 dollars in autumn and from 450 dollars to 750 dollars in winter and rainy season. Gautam said that the department has already started to issue autumn climbing permits at the new rate.

Revised Mountaineering Regulations make guides mandatory . A guide is mandatory for every two climbers climbing Everest or any mountain above 8,000 meters. To be kept . One guide for every 15 climbers is mandatory for mountains below 8,000 meters.
