Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal wants to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Addressing the 'SCO Plus' meeting in Tianjin, China on Monday, he said that Nepal expects to become a full member of the SCO.
Prime Minister Oli also expressed this desire in a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday and asked for support for that.
Nepal is a 'dialogue partner' country of SCO. Addressing 'SCO Plus', Oli emphasized on the need for a more integrated, organized and strong SCO.
Discussing that Nepal's mountains are becoming snowless due to climate change, he mentioned that it is affecting billions of people below. He stressed on the need for a strong SCO to face every situation, geopolitical and economic challenge as crises like terrorism, cyber attacks, and epidemics know no boundaries.
He mentioned that common challenges can be tackled only through regional cooperation and collaboration and Nepal is committed to that. He said that the world should grow mainly in these three ways from isolation to contact, from confrontation to consultation and from competition to cooperation.
Expressing Nepal's commitment to regional cooperation within the SCO, Prime Minister Oli mentioned that multilateral platforms should abandon the behavior of making promises but not implementing them.
