A Dalit youth has died after being beaten up for stealing a mobile phone in Katharia Municipality-4. The police arrested one person for his involvement in the incident. The young man died on August 11th during treatment.
30-year-old Nasib Baitha of Kataharia Municipality-4 Bahadurpur was injured by a neighbor's beating on the 17th of July on the charge of stealing a mobile phone. He died during treatment, according to the local police office Garuda.
Mother Sunaina Devi has filed a complaint against her neighbor Garbudayal Sarbhang, Sanjay Yadav, his brother Vijay Yadav and four people in the case of dereliction of duty. "It is understood that Naseeb got injured in the chest due to the beating," said DSP Rajan Karki of the local police Garuda, "A complaint has been registered against the four people involved in the incident in the case of dereliction of duty." Now three people are absconding. They are being searched for.
Naseeb, who was injured in the beating, died at the Sport Hospital in Birgunj. At a snack shop in Katharia market, a local Garbudyal Sarbhang allegedly beat up Nasib with the help of some youths, accusing him of stealing his mobile phone. The next day, Sanjay Yadav and his brother Vijay Yadav of the village also took Nasib to a mango garden outside the village and beat him up. DSP Karki said that Vijay and Sanjay are absconding now.
Sanjay Yadav went to the area police office Katharia and filed a complaint that Nasib had stolen the mobile phone on 32nd of June. On July 1, the police called Nasib to the police office and discussed it. "Since there was no confirmation from anywhere that the mobile phone was stolen in Chalfal, we have left Baita," said DSP Karki, "Further investigation is being done on the incident." Nasib has four young sons.
