Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has left for China. The delegation including the Prime Minister left Tribhuvan International Airport this morning to participate in the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the 'SCO Plus' meeting.
Prime Minister Oli is meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the conference. Oli's visit to China is viewed with importance in the background of India and China agreeing to resume trade through Nepali land Lipulek last week. Nepal has formally protested against the agreement made by India and China. That is why there is interest everywhere as to how the Nepali side will use the high-level meeting on the sidelines of the conference.
The SCO meeting is being held on August 15-16 in Tianjin, China. Nepal is about to participate in SCO as a 'dialogue partner'. Nepal is not a member state of SCO. Oli will address the 'SCO Plus' meeting.
Prime Minister Oli will meet Chinese Vice President Han Chang in Beijing on August 17. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Oli will also participate in the 80th anniversary program of China's victory against the Japanese invasion to be held in Beijing on the same day. This is Oli's second visit to China after becoming the Prime Minister last year. Last year, Oli visited China on 17-20 December.
