According to the National Youth Policy, the age of youth in Nepal has been fixed at 18 to 35 years. According to the recently approved policy by the Council of Ministers, the age of youth will be 18-35. According to National Youth Policy-2072 which was active before, the age of youth was 16-40.
The main goal (mission) of the youth policy is to 'increase the meaningful participation and role of the youth in nation building by making the youth competent and responsible'. Similarly, the main goal has been to develop the youth in all aspects, to ensure the meaningful participation of the youth in the development of the state, and to contribute to the development of a developed nation by preparing virtuous and cultured youth with a sense of patriotism.
The revised National Youth Policy states, "The population of the age group of 18 to 35 years will be considered youth in the context of Nepal in order to adapt to the national and international environment." Basnet said, "Nationally, the Children's Act considers children up to 18 years of age, and a new definition of youth has been made keeping in mind the international environment."
The new policy emphasizes on developing, protecting and mobilizing healthy, educated, positive-thinking, ethical, entrepreneurial, creative, loyal to duties and responsibilities and aware of rights youth. Similarly, it is stated in the youth policy, "A technology-friendly nation will be built by ensuring inclusive participation of youth in research, exploration and technology, easy access, maximum utilization and cyber security."
In order to make the youth self-reliant and self-employed, the new youth policy emphasizes programs such as startups, business promotion centers, single point service centers, and career counseling.
Similarly, it is mentioned that encouraging programs to use the knowledge, skills and capital of the youth, technical knowledge and skill-based training, entrepreneurship development programs in various business and trade fields.
Similarly, in the youth policy, it is mentioned that employment and self-employment programs in various fields, modernization, modification and transfer of traditional skills, green agriculture employment programs and entrepreneurship competitions with skill-based and professional training, opportunities and prizes will be conducted.
