The number of people infected with cholera has reached 134 in Birganj metropolitan area, where the outbreak of diarrhea and cholera has spread. According to the latest statistics released by Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality at 10 am on Thursday, 134 people are infected with cholera in Birgunj Metropolitan area alone.

76 of them are undergoing treatment in various hospitals here and 58 have been discharged.

7 cases of cholera have been confirmed in Pokharia as well. In this way, the total number of infected in Parsa district has reached 141 in Virganj and Pokharia.

So far, out of 570 patients admitted to hospital with diarrhea and cholera in Birgunj metropolis, 270 have been discharged, while 310 people, including the infected, are undergoing treatment.

According to District Health Crisis Management Committee spokesperson Sumanchandra Thakur, the confirmed cholera infected so far have been confirmed through RDT test. Most of those confirmed to be infected belong to Ward No. 3, 11, 12, 13 and 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

47 people in Narayani Hospital, 43 people in Terai Hospital, 17 people in National Medical College and 7 people in Virgunj Health Care have been confirmed infected with cholera. Bhavani and Mangalam Pathology 4/4 infected, Prabhu, Ali Ortho and Advance Medicare Hospital 2/2 infected, Narayani Center, Nepal Indo, Neelkanth, Nepal Medicity Biodha, Best and Gandak Hospital 1/1 infected.

In Birgunj metropolitan area, the spread of infection from the water supplied by the drinking water company or the newly installed deep borings has been widely monitored, so far the source of the cholera infection has not been officially confirmed.

7 infected patients are being treated in Pokhria Hospital

Cholera infection has been confirmed in 7 of the 12 patients admitted and treated at Pokhria Hospital in Pokhria Municipality of Parsa. Jaimod Thakur, officer of District Health Office Parsa, informed that these infected people are outside Birgunj metropolis.

In this way, the total number of cholera infected in Parsa district has reached 141 in Virgunj and Pokharia. Thakur said that health institutions are treating cholera infected and diarrhea patients in the same way.
