Cholera infection has not been brought under control in Birgunj. As of Tuesday evening, cholera infection has been confirmed in 21 more people. With this, the number of cholera infected in the metropolis has reached 114. In the last 24 hours, the infection rate is increasing instead of decreasing. As of Monday, 93 people had been diagnosed with cholera.
According to District Health Crisis Management Committee spokesperson Sumanchandra Thakur, cholera has been confirmed in 114 people from the RDT test conducted so far. Those who have been confirmed infected are from Birganj Municipal Corporation-3, 11, 12, 13 and 16.
Cholera infection has been confirmed in 43 people in Narayani Hospital and 38 people in Terai Hospital. According to the District Health Crisis Management Committee, 15 people have been infected in National Medical College, 3/3 people in Bhavani, Virgunj Health Care and Mangalam Pathology, 2/2 people in Ali Ortho and Advance Medicare Hospital and 1/1 person in Narayani Center, Nepal Indo, Neelkanth, Nepal Medicity Vyodha and Best Hospital. 199 patients of diarrhea and cholera are being treated in different hospitals of the metropolis. As of Tuesday evening, 223 cholera and diarrhea patients have been discharged and returned home.
Cholera, which was seen only in the Birganj metropolitan area until Monday, has now started spreading to other municipalities in Parsa. Cholera infection has been confirmed in 4 people who were admitted to a hospital in Pokhria Municipality on Tuesday due to diarrhoea. They are residents of Vindwasini and Dhobini rural municipalities. Cholera infection was confirmed in four persons and one of them was referred and admitted to Birganj Health Care Hospital in Birganj on Tuesday evening, said Jaymod Thakur, officer of District Health Office Parsa.
As the risk of cholera spreading to the community level increased, Birganj Metropolitan Municipality has decided to close all educational institutions for three more days. Schools and colleges were closed for two days on Sunday and Monday after the outbreak of cholera. Anand Lamichhane, head of the educational administration division of the metropolitan city, said in a notice issued on Tuesday that the decision to close educational institutions was made as per the decision of the meeting chaired by Mayor Rajeshman Singh. According to Lamichhane, teachers and staff will be mobilized to spread public awareness about cholera control during the school closure period. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Municipality has started monitoring
in hotels and meat shops . On Tuesday, the joint team of the metropolis checked the cleanliness of hotels and meat shops in Murli, Pani Tanki, Bus Park and Nagwa areas. According to the directives of Metropolitan Chief Singh, Animal Services Branch, Environment Branch and Metropolitan Police team conducted the monitoring. The metropolis has also started a public awareness program for cholera control, testing of contaminated water, sanitation of infected areas and door-to-door campaign through health workers .
