Cholera infection rate slows down in Birgunj, 2 more infected in 14 hours

In Birganj, the number of cholera infected has reached 95, 220 are being treated in the hospital. The source of cholera spread is still unknown, identification efforts are ongoing.

There are signs that the rate of cholera infection is slowing down in Birgunj metropolitan area, where diarrhea and cholera outbreaks are prevalent. In the period of more than 14 hours from 6:00 PM on Monday to 8:30 AM on Tuesday, only 2 cholera infections were confirmed. This indicates a relatively low infection rate.

According to District Health Crisis Management Committee spokesperson Sumanchandra Thakur, 95 people have been confirmed to be infected with cholera in 13 hospitals and health institutions in Birganj so far.

3 of them were confirmed by RDT test. He informed that even though great efforts are being made for control, the number of cholera infected people in Birgunj metropolis is increasing daily. By 6 pm on Monday, the number of infected people had reached 93. Among those confirmed infected are the residents of Birganj Metropolitan Municipality-3, 11, 12, 13 and 16.

32-32 people in Narayani and Tarai Hospitals, 13 people in National Medical College, 3-3 people in Bhavani, Virganj Health Care and Mangalam Pathology, 2-2 people in Ali Ortho and Advance Medicare Hospital, 1-1 people each in Narayani Center, Nepal Indo, Neelkanth, Nepal Medici, Bayodha and Best Hospital.

As of Tuesday, 220 people suffering from diarrhea and cholera are being treated in various hospitals in Birgunj, while 171 people have been discharged and returned home.

So far, the source of cholera has not been identified. Concerned officials have claimed that the source will be identified by Tuesday. It is said that the bacteria causing cholera will be clearly identified after the culture test. So far only cholera infection has been confirmed in Birganj through RDT test.
