Vice President of Vietnam Bho Thi An Suan arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday for a three-day visit to Nepal. She came to Nepal at the invitation of Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice President Suan's visit to Nepal is the first high-level visit by Vietnam. He is scheduled to hold delegation-level bilateral talks with Vice President Yadav on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Suan will also hold a courtesy meeting with other high-ranking officials of Nepal. This year marks 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Vietnam. On this occasion, Vice President Suan visited Nepal.

Vice President Suan and Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba had a courtesy meeting on Saturday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, various dimensions of Nepal-Vietnam relations as well as bilateral interests and mutual interests were discussed during the meeting. Minister Rana congratulated Vietnam for its rapid economic development and opined that other countries can learn from it.

She emphasized that the cultural relations between the two countries should be highlighted and that Buddhism is the link between the two countries and the people. Mentioning the fact that many Vietnamese citizens visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, Minister Rana also said that both countries can work together in the field of cultural tourism promotion. She also asked for the creation of a direct flight environment from Vietnam to Bhairahawa-based Gautam Budh International Airport and Pokhara Airport in Nepal. 

Minister Rana also asked for the necessary support in the subsequent situation as Nepal is preparing to be upgraded from a least developed country after 2026. Since Nepal has submitted candidacy for the Human Rights Council member for 2027 to 2029 and Economic and Social Council member for 2029 to 2031, she also requested for support. According to the Foreign Ministry, Vice President Suan expressed his commitment to support Nepal. Vice President Suan will return to Vietnam on Monday.
