District Court Kaski has ordered Gyan Bahadur Bamjan, the former president of Pokhara's Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative, to be released on bail. He, who is on the run in co-operative fraud charges, appeared in court on Sunday and gave a statement.
The bench of Judge Shankar Kumar Rai ordered him to be released on bail of Rs 10 lakh.
Damodar Acharya, information officer of the Kaski court informed that he was released on Sunday after posting the bail. Bamjan denied the allegations against him and gave a denial statement. He is accused of embezzlement of more than 1 billion 51 crore rupees of Suryadarshan and will be held collectively liable. In the charge sheet submitted by the District Public Prosecutor's Office on 7th December 2011, it is claimed that Bamjan alone embezzled 1 crore 54 lakh 49 thousand 839 rupees.
After the ad hoc board of directors of the cooperative was formed on 1 June 065 under the chairmanship of Meena Gurung, the initial general meeting held on 27 August formed the first board of directors under the chairmanship of Bamjan . Gitendrababu (GB) Rai became the president after him on 17 Mansir 068. Bamjan is also the elder brother of GB Rai. While working in Bamjan's company, GB Rai had a second marriage with his sister. Lately, Bamjan was living in America. Right after the
statement was over, legal practitioners on behalf of Bamjan and the cooperative victims had a debate on Sunday. Advocates Dron Dahal and Nirmalraj Paudel argued on behalf of Bamjan. Yuvraj Parajuli Bibi Bista and Deepak Sharma Paudel argued on behalf of the cooperative victims. The government lawyer who had to argue on behalf of the victim was not present in the debate. The Suryadarshan Cooperative victim has expressed his displeasure that he was not allowed to speak during the
debate. Kiran Shrestha, the coordinator of Suryadarshan Sahakari Savings and Victims Sangharsh Samiti, complained that they were not given any information from either the government lawyer or the court. "Even though the judge did not give any order, the police stopped us from speaking in the courtroom," he said, "The public prosecutor's office also did not coordinate with us."
