Sita Mizar, a member of the House of Representatives, has raised a question saying that the government has shown hesitation in listing the surnames of the Dalit community.

Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, MP Mizar said that although the National Dalit Commission had spent four years studying and preparing the various surnames of the Dalit community for listing, the government was not taking a decision, but the future of thousands of common people was being played with.

'The National Dalit Commission has recommended a list to the government in accordance with the National Dalit Commission Act, 2074 for listing the different castes of the Dalit community prepared after 4 years of study and research. But the government has not made a decision so far, even though it has been requested many times,' she asked, 'Why has the government not got free time even for such simple tasks?'

She said that thousands of people from the Dalit community are being deprived of obtaining citizenship certificates and are also deprived of other government facilities due to the fact that their surnames are not listed. "They have not been able to enjoy basic rights such as higher education, social security, nutrition allowance, scholarship," he said.
