Former Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane, who is imprisoned in the Cooperative Fraud case, has been transferred from Rupandehi Jail to Nakhkhu Jail in Lalitpur.
Lamichhane, who is in Rupandehi Jail, was detained in Block No. 4 since March 25 on charges of involvement in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal. Demanding the transfer of the prison, he applied for the second time on Wednesday not to transfer the prison.
Lamichhane complained that he was kept in Rupandehi even though he filed a petition in Rupandehi district court on 14th of June demanding to be transferred to Dilli Bazar Jail. On Monday, Lamichhane expressed his displeasure that the order of the court was not implemented even when a team including National Human Rights Commission commissioner Lily Thapa inspected the Rupandehi prison. At that time, the court also allowed him to transfer.
Director General of Prison Management Department Leela Prasad Sharma decided to move Lamichhane from Rupandehi on Friday based on the request (second application) on July 28, the same day he assumed office. On Saturday, after the necessary procedures were completed by the Rupandehi Prison, Nakhu was taken to Kathmandu Airport by plane.
